Bem Centre

Location

The dilapidated Radetzky Barracks building has served numerous functions over the centuries: built in Neo-Classical style in 1840 as a military food store, it later functioned as a treasury bakery and then as a munitions depot. In 1897, the building was converted into barracks, and later operated as a military hospital and a prison.

After decades without a meaningful function, this remarkable building is now being transformed into a contemporary hotel and office destination that combines heritage preservation with modern architectural solutions. The project was designed by the multiple Ybl Award-winning 3h Architects, one of Hungary’s most respected architectural studios. Their internationally recognised portfolio includes the Visitor Centre of Szeged Cathedral, the renewal of Pannonhalma Archabbey, the MOME Campus development and the reconstruction of the western wing of Esterházy Palace in Fertőd.

The Bem Center development creates a meaningful dialogue between past and present. It respects the historic character of the building, preserves authentic values and introduces new functions that respond to the needs of today’s urban environment.
